Description

This Salmon and Shrimp with Creamy Garlic Sauce is a quick, one-pan meal that combines crispy, flaky salmon and succulent shrimp in a rich, garlicky Parmesan sauce. With hints of butter, lemon, and fresh herbs, it’s the perfect balance of savory, creamy, and slightly tangy flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Salmon and Shrimp:

  • 2 salmon fillets (6 oz each, skin-on or off)
  • ½ lb large shrimp (peeled & deveined)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter

For the Creamy Garlic Sauce:

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup chicken broth (or seafood broth)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or half & half)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional, for depth)
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or ½ teaspoon dried)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Season and Sear the Salmon

  1. Pat the salmon fillets dry with a paper towel for a better sear.
  2. Season both sides with salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Place the salmon fillets skin-side down and sear for 4–5 minutes, then flip and cook for another 3–4 minutes.
  5. Remove from the pan and set aside.

Step 2: Cook the Shrimp

  1. In the same pan, add 1 tablespoon olive oil if needed.
  2. Season the shrimp lightly with salt and black pepper.
  3. Cook for 1–2 minutes per side until pink and opaque. Remove and set aside with the salmon.

Step 3: Make the Creamy Garlic Sauce

  1. Reduce heat to medium and add the minced garlic to the pan. Sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  2. Pour in the chicken broth to deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits.
  3. Stir in the heavy cream, Parmesan, Dijon mustard, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 3–4 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. Add the lemon juice and fresh thyme, stirring well.

Step 4: Combine Everything

  1. Return the salmon and shrimp to the pan, spooning the sauce over the top.
  2. Let it simmer for 2 more minutes to blend flavors.

Step 5: Serve and Enjoy!

  1. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately over pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • For extra richness, add a tablespoon of butter to the sauce before serving.
  • Prefer a thicker sauce? Simmer a little longer or stir in a teaspoon of cornstarch mixed with water.
  • Want a lighter version? Use half & half instead of heavy cream.
  • Use fresh seafood when possible! It makes a huge difference in flavor.
