Description

As a passionate home cook, I find joy in creating dishes that not only taste amazing but also tell a story. One of my favorite recipes to whip up is the Fig and Honey Ricotta Crostini. This delightful appetizer is a perfect blend of sweet and savory, making it a crowd-pleaser at any gathering. I remember the first time I made it; I was hosting a small get-together for friends, and I wanted to impress them with something unique yet simple.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1 cup fresh ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup fresh figs, stemmed and quartered
  • 2 tablespoons honey (plus extra for drizzling)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or rosemary)
  • A pinch of sea salt
  • Olive oil, for drizzling
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, optional
  • Prosciutto, optional
  • Goat cheese, optional
  • Chopped nuts, optional
  • Balsamic glaze, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Arrange the baguette slices on a baking sheet. Drizzle them lightly with olive oil and sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top.
  3. Toast in the oven for about 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine ricotta, honey, lemon juice, thyme leaves, and a pinch of sea salt. Mix gently until well blended and creamy.
  5. Spread a generous tablespoon of the ricotta mixture onto each toasted baguette slice.
  6. Top each crostini with a few pieces of quartered figs.
  7. Drizzle with extra honey and add any optional toppings if desired.

Notes

  • Always use the freshest figs and ricotta for the best flavor.
  • Toast the baguette slices just before serving to keep them crispy.
  • Let the ricotta sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before mixing.
  • You can prepare the ricotta mixture a few hours in advance.
  • For an elegant touch, garnish with extra thyme or a drizzle of honey.
