Description
Sweet Apple Waffle Roll-Ups are a delightful breakfast treat filled with caramelized apples and cream cheese, perfect for any morning or as a sweet snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 large waffles (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
- Honey or maple syrup for drizzling (optional)
- Whipped cream for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Sauté the Apples: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the thinly sliced apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
- Prepare the Cream Cheese Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar. Beat until smooth and creamy. If you like some crunch, fold in the chopped pecans or walnuts.
- Assemble the Waffle Roll-Ups: Lay a waffle flat on a clean surface. Spread a generous layer of the cream cheese mixture evenly over the waffle. Place a line of the sautéed apple mixture along one edge of the waffle. Carefully roll the waffle up tightly around the apple mixture.
- Cook the Roll-Ups: Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place the rolled-up waffles seam-side down and lightly press them with a spatula. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
- Serve: Remove the roll-ups from the skillet and slice them in half for easy eating. Drizzle with honey or maple syrup, and top with whipped cream if desired.
Notes
- These roll-ups are best served warm.
- Feel free to substitute the apples with other fruits like pears or berries.
- For an extra indulgent treat, add chocolate chips to the cream cheese mixture.
