Description

A delightful and moist Sourdough Apple Bread infused with cinnamon and topped with a sweet glaze.


Ingredients

Scale
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • ⅔ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all purpose flour (240 grams)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup sourdough discard (125 grams)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups apples peeled and chopped (about 2 medium apples)
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (for apple filling)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (for apple filling)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted and cooled (for glaze)
  • 1 pinch salt (optional for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 350° and greasing a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan.
  2. Peel, core, and chop your apples. Stir them with the apple filling mixture in a large bowl.
  3. In a large mixing bowl combine the dry ingredients and stir well.
  4. Add in the wet ingredients and mix with a mixer until well combined.
  5. Stir in the apple filling mixture with a large spoon. Pour the batter into the greased 9 x 5 inch loaf pan.
  6. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean from the middle.
  7. While the loaf is cooling, combine the ingredients for the glaze in a mixing bowl.
  8. Whisk until smooth then drizzle over the bread before serving.

  • Make sure to use fresh apples for the best flavor.
  • For a more intense flavor, let the bread cool completely before glazing.
