Description

A delicious burger topped with sweet bacon jam and gooey Gouda cheese for an elevated flavor experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup chopped yellow onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped garlic
  • 1/2 pound bacon, chopped into small chunks
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 4 burger buns
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 4 slices of gouda or classic American cheese
  • 1/2 pound bacon, whole pieces

Instructions

  1. Slice up the bacon into small chunks (about 1 inch each). Set the rest of the bacon aside for later.
  2. Cook the bacon bits and chopped onions in a pan over medium heat until the bacon is crispy and onions are tender.
  3. Discard all but 2 tablespoons of the grease from the pan. Stir in garlic and let it cook for just a minute.
  4. Add in the brown sugar, vinegar, and salt, cooking the mix until it thickens to a jam consistency.
  5. Cool it off in a jar and set it aside.
  6. Lay the leftover bacon slices flat on a foil-covered baking sheet.
  7. Start with a cold oven, turn it to 400°F, and let the bacon crispen up as the oven heats.
  8. After it cooks, move it to a plate lined with paper towels to drain.
  9. Shape the beef into 4 burger patties, then sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  10. Cook the patties however you prefer (on a grill, in a pan, or in the oven) until they’ve reached the doneness you like.
  11. Right before they’re done, put a cheese slice over each patty to melt.
  12. Start building your burger by placing a patty with melted cheese on the bottom bun.
  13. Add a scoop of the sweet bacon jam, a couple of crispy bacon pieces, and finish it off with the top bun.
  14. Serve and dig in while it’s still warm!

Notes

  • Feel free to add other toppings like lettuce or tomato according to your preference.
  • The bacon jam can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
