Description

A spooky twist on the classic deviled eggs, perfect for Halloween celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 hard-boiled eggs
  • 8 drops super black food gel
  • 5 cups water
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon creme fraiche (or whipped cream cheese/sour cream)
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 10 drops orange food gel
  • 1 teaspoon black sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Boil the eggs using your preferred method and cool them completely.
  2. In a large bowl, mix water and black food gel to create a dye for the eggs.
  3. Gently crack each egg with the back of a spoon, then immerse them in the black dye for at least two hours in the refrigerator.
  4. Once the eggs are ready, peel and slice them in half lengthwise. Gently pop the yolks into a bowl.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the yolks with mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, creme fraiche, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  6. Add the orange food gel to the yolk mixture and blend well to achieve the desired color.
  7. Transfer the orange yolk mixture into a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  8. Pipe the mixture into the egg whites, filling them generously.
  9. Sprinkle black sesame seeds on top for garnish and chill until ready to serve.

Notes

  • For a more intense black color, let the eggs sit longer in the dye.
  • Feel free to adjust the seasoning to taste.
  • These can be made a day in advance for convenience.
