Description
A spooky twist on the classic deviled eggs, perfect for Halloween celebrations.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 hard-boiled eggs
- 8 drops super black food gel
- 5 cups water
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon creme fraiche (or whipped cream cheese/sour cream)
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 10 drops orange food gel
- 1 teaspoon black sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Boil the eggs using your preferred method and cool them completely.
- In a large bowl, mix water and black food gel to create a dye for the eggs.
- Gently crack each egg with the back of a spoon, then immerse them in the black dye for at least two hours in the refrigerator.
- Once the eggs are ready, peel and slice them in half lengthwise. Gently pop the yolks into a bowl.
- In a separate bowl, combine the yolks with mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, creme fraiche, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Add the orange food gel to the yolk mixture and blend well to achieve the desired color.
- Transfer the orange yolk mixture into a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
- Pipe the mixture into the egg whites, filling them generously.
- Sprinkle black sesame seeds on top for garnish and chill until ready to serve.
Notes
- For a more intense black color, let the eggs sit longer in the dye.
- Feel free to adjust the seasoning to taste.
- These can be made a day in advance for convenience.
