- 2 tablespoons butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for spice)
- 1 tablespoon white wine or lemon juice
For the Creamy Sauce:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon flour
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ¼ cup milk
- ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
- ½ teaspoon Dijon mustard
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional, for depth of flavor)
For the Topping:
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
- ¼ cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 1 teaspoon chopped parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat & Prep
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Lightly grease a baking dish or individual ramekins with butter.
Step 2: Sauté the Shrimp
- In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Toss in the shrimp, season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes, and cook for 1-2 minutes per side until just pink (they’ll finish cooking in the oven).
- Deglaze the pan with white wine or lemon juice, stir, then transfer the shrimp to the prepared baking dish.
Step 3: Make the Creamy Sauce
- In the same skillet, melt 1 tablespoon butter and whisk in flour to form a roux.
- Slowly add heavy cream and milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps.
- Stir in parmesan, Dijon mustard, and nutmeg. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until thickened.
- Pour the sauce over the shrimp in the baking dish.
Step 4: Make the Crispy Topping
- In a bowl, mix panko breadcrumbs with melted butter until coated.
- Sprinkle shredded mozzarella, parmesan, and buttery panko evenly over the shrimp.
Step 5: Bake Until Golden
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- For extra crispiness, broil for 1-2 minutes at the end.
Step 6: Serve & Enjoy!
- Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot with crusty bread, pasta, or rice.
Notes
- Use fresh shrimp for the best flavor, but frozen (thawed) shrimp works too.
- For a lighter version, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream and reduce the cheese.
- Want extra crunch? Double the panko topping!
