Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups long-grain white rice

  • 3 cups beef broth (or water with beef bouillon)

  • 1 pound ground beef (85% lean)

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or butter)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1 bell pepper (green or red), finely chopped

  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

Seasonings:

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika

  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme

  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)

Garnish (Optional):

  • 2 green onions, chopped

  • Fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

Step 1: Cook the Rice

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming too sticky.

  2. In a medium saucepan, bring 3 cups of beef broth to a boil.

  3. Add the rinsed rice, reduce heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 15–18 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed.

  4. Once done, remove from heat and let the rice sit, covered, for another 5 minutes before fluffing it with a fork. Set aside.

Step 2: Cook the Ground Beef

  1. In a large skillet or deep pan, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

  2. Add the ground beef and cook for about 5–7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked.

  3. If there’s excess grease, drain it from the pan, but leave about 1 tablespoon for flavor.

Step 3: Sauté the Vegetables

  1. Reduce heat to medium and add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and celery to the pan with the ground beef.

  2. Sauté for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables soften.

  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Step 4: Season the Mixture

  1. Stir in salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, thyme, and oregano.

  2. Mix well to ensure the beef and vegetables are evenly coated with the seasonings.

  3. Add Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce (if using), then stir again.

Step 5: Combine with Rice

  1. Add the cooked rice to the skillet with the beef and vegetable mixture.

  2. Stir everything together, making sure the rice absorbs all the flavors.

  3. Let the mixture cook for another 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to blend.

Step 6: Garnish and Serve

  1. Remove the skillet from heat and sprinkle chopped green onions and parsley on top.

  2. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

  3. Serve hot and enjoy!
