Description

Creamy Chicken Sausage Orzo Skillet Recipe. This dish is like a cozy hug on a plate, perfect for those busy weeknights when you want something delicious without spending hours in the kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound chicken sausage, sliced
  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 2 cups baby spinach
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 1/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil. Sauté the sliced chicken sausage for 5-7 minutes until browned.
  2. Remove the sausage and add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until translucent, then stir in orzo and toast for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Pour in chicken broth, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10-12 minutes until orzo is tender.
  4. Stir in cherry tomatoes, baby spinach, heavy cream, and the cooked sausage. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, then add Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  5. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chicken sausage for better flavor.
  • Feel free to customize with any vegetables you have on hand.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to three days.
  • For a lighter option, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or Greek yogurt.
  • Check the orzo for doneness a minute or two before the suggested time.
