Description

Delicious cinnamon rolls with a fun Cookie Monster twist, featuring blue dough and cookie-filled filling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup crushed chocolate sandwich cookies
  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened (for icing)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (for icing)
  • 23 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • ½ cup crushed chocolate cookies (for topping)
  • Extra mini chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk and yeast; let sit until foamy (5 minutes). Stir in sugar, egg, yolks, melted butter, and vanilla. Gradually mix in flour and salt until soft dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough until slightly sticky; add blue food coloring. Let rise in a greased bowl for about 1 to 1½ hours.
  3. Prepare the filling by combining softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, crushed cookies, and mini chocolate chips.
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle; spread filling evenly and roll tightly. Cut into 12 rolls.
  5. Place rolls in a greased baking dish; let rise for another 30–45 minutes while preheating oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  6. For icing, beat together cream cheese and butter; gradually add powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Drizzle over warm rolls.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of blue food coloring to achieve your desired shade.
  • Make sure the milk is warm but not hot, as excessive heat can kill the yeast.
  • For a richer flavor, let the rolls cool slightly before adding the icing.
