Description
A savory and delightful breakfast dish featuring layers of cheese, sausage, and eggs baked to perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground pork sausage
- 8 tablespoons butter, split
- 12 slices of American processed cheese
- 1 cup whole milk, separated
- 18 large eggs, split up
- 1/2 tsp black pepper, coarsely ground
- 1/4 tsp coarse salt
- 1/2 tsp mustard powder
- 12 slices of thick-cut Texas toast
Instructions
- Turn the oven on to 375°F (190°C) to get it up to temperature.
- Toss the pork sausage into a big pan and cook it over medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes, stirring and breaking into bits as it browns. Scoop out the cooked meat and drain off the grease.
- Put a tablespoon of butter in the pan and let it melt over medium. In a small bowl, whisk together 10 eggs, 1/4 cup of milk, salt, and pepper. Pour the mix into the pan and gently stir until the eggs are just set.
- Grab a 9×13 baking pan and place 6 slices of Texas toast along the bottom. Add a slice of American cheese on top of each piece of bread.
- Spread the sausage and scrambled eggs across the bread. Lay another slice of American cheese on top.
- In a medium bowl, mix the remaining 8 eggs with 3/4 cup of milk and the mustard powder. Carefully pour the mixture over everything in the pan to soak through.
- Place the last 6 slices of Texas toast on top to finish your layers.
- Melt the rest of the butter (3 tablespoons) and lightly brush it over the top layer of bread.
- Wrap the pan with foil and bake it for 20 minutes.
- Take off the foil and put it back in the oven for another 20 minutes until golden.
Notes
- For a spicier version, consider adding diced jalapeños or hot sauce.
- This dish can be prepared the night before and refrigerated until ready to bake.
