Description
A comforting and hearty dish featuring layers of biscuits, savory sausage, and rich gravy, perfect for breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tubes (16 oz each) jumbo butter-flavored biscuits
- 1 lb pork sausage or ground pork
- 2 cans (15 oz each) country sausage gravy
- 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 3 tbsp butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13 inch casserole dish. Cut each biscuit into quarters.
- Place one tube’s worth of quartered biscuits in the bottom of your dish and bake for 12-15 minutes until they’re mostly cooked.
- Cook the pork sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain off excess grease.
- Spread the cooked sausage evenly over the partially baked biscuits.
- Add both cans of sausage gravy to the skillet and warm over medium heat until lightly browned.
- Pour the warm gravy evenly over the sausage layer.
- Sprinkle black pepper over the gravy to taste.
- Arrange remaining quartered biscuits in a single layer on top of the casserole.
- Bake uncovered for 10 minutes, then cover with aluminum foil and bake for another 15 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and brush melted butter over the top biscuits.
- Let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier dish, consider adding hot sausage or some crushed red pepper flakes.
- This recipe can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the fridge before baking.
- Feel free to add cheese on top in the last few minutes of baking for extra flavor.
