Description

A comforting and hearty dish featuring layers of biscuits, savory sausage, and rich gravy, perfect for breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tubes (16 oz each) jumbo butter-flavored biscuits
  • 1 lb pork sausage or ground pork
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) country sausage gravy
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 tbsp butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13 inch casserole dish. Cut each biscuit into quarters.
  2. Place one tube’s worth of quartered biscuits in the bottom of your dish and bake for 12-15 minutes until they’re mostly cooked.
  3. Cook the pork sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain off excess grease.
  4. Spread the cooked sausage evenly over the partially baked biscuits.
  5. Add both cans of sausage gravy to the skillet and warm over medium heat until lightly browned.
  6. Pour the warm gravy evenly over the sausage layer.
  7. Sprinkle black pepper over the gravy to taste.
  8. Arrange remaining quartered biscuits in a single layer on top of the casserole.
  9. Bake uncovered for 10 minutes, then cover with aluminum foil and bake for another 15 minutes.
  10. Remove from the oven and brush melted butter over the top biscuits.
  11. Let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier dish, consider adding hot sausage or some crushed red pepper flakes.
  • This recipe can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the fridge before baking.
  • Feel free to add cheese on top in the last few minutes of baking for extra flavor.
