Description

These fritters are not just any ordinary treat; they are a delightful blend of sweet, tart apples and warm spices, all wrapped in a fluffy batter. I remember the first time I made them. It was a chilly autumn afternoon, and I had just returned from the local orchard with a basket full of freshly picked apples.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups diced apples
  • Optional: Chopped nuts, raisins or dried cranberries, extra spices

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the apple mixture using Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. In another bowl, combine the wet ingredients: eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
  5. Gently fold in the diced apples into the batter.
  6. Scoop heaping spoonfuls of batter onto a lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 14–16 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.

Notes

  • Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor.
  • Let eggs and milk come to room temperature before mixing.
  • Don’t overmix the batter to keep fritters light and fluffy.
  • Allow fritters to cool slightly before glazing.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days.
