Description
Bacon-Wrapped Brussels Sprouts Lemon is a delicious appetizer featuring tender Brussels sprouts wrapped in crispy bacon, drizzled with maple syrup, and served with a creamy lemon dip.
Ingredients
Scale
- 18 medium Brussels sprouts (approximately 680 grams)
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 12 ounces (340 grams) center-cut bacon (about 18 strips)
- 1/4 cup (60 millilitres) pure maple syrup, plus 1/2 cup (120 millilitres) for serving
- 1/2 cup (120 grams) mayonnaise
- Zest of 1/2 lemon
- 2 teaspoons (10 millilitres) fresh lemon juice
- Crushed red pepper flakes, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200°C. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Trim stem ends from Brussels sprouts and halve each lengthwise. Place in a medium bowl and toss with 1 teaspoon kosher salt.
- Lay bacon strips side by side on a work surface. Brush generously with half of the 1/4 cup maple syrup, then cut bacon strips in half crosswise. Wrap each Brussels sprout half with a piece of bacon, syrup side facing out, ensuring the seam sits on the flat side.
- Place bacon-wrapped sprouts seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between them. Brush with additional maple syrup and season with freshly ground black pepper.
- Roast sprouts for approximately 30 minutes, rotating the baking sheet halfway through, until bacon is crisp and Brussels sprouts are tender when pierced with a knife.
- In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, most of the lemon zest, and all the lemon juice. Mix until smooth. Sprinkle remaining lemon zest over the top.
- Pour 1/2 cup maple syrup into a small bowl. Add freshly ground black pepper and crushed red pepper flakes to taste, stirring to combine.
- Arrange the bacon-wrapped Brussels sprouts on a platter. Serve with creamy lemon dip and peppered maple syrup for dipping.
Notes
- Make sure to leave space between the bacon-wrapped sprouts on the baking sheet for even cooking.
- You can adjust the level of spiciness by varying the amount of crushed red pepper flakes.
- This dish is great for parties or as a unique side for holiday dinners.
